n + 1: Effective Training & Consulting in Open Source
Open Source technology is a great option for many companies. The
functionality and adaptability of operating systems such as Linux have
made them very popular throughout the world. However, just like
any other technology, Open Source systems require competent programmers
and operators in order for companies to get the most possible out of
them. That's where n+1 comes in.
n + 1 is an Open Source consulting and training company based in Louisville,
KY. In mid-2009, they expanded to the Ohio market, hiring Eileen Twinem
as Director of Business Development for the territory. "I'm excited to
bring n + 1 to Ohio," she says.
But n + 1 isn't just any old Open Source consulting & training company:
with specially-developed courseware that can be personalized for client
needs, instructors with real-world experience who don't just teach from a
manual, and competitive pricing, n + 1 offers it all.
The company began writing their own courseware when they found "third-party
options were not adequate for the concepts we wanted to teach," Eileen
explains. And because of these in-house development capabilities, the
company can also personalize courses much more easily. Eileen describes
the process as interactive: "The client explains what they want to be able
to do with the software they have, and we train to that. We may use courseware
we already have, or customize to meet specific needs. A lot of people may
have basic knowledge but are more interested in a specific functionality or
option. We can definitely address those needs, which allows us to get
people up to speed much more quickly and efficiently."
And as a small company, n+1 can offer top-notch training at a lower cost.
"Cost is definitely a benefit we offer versus competitors," Eileen says.
"We run leaner and meaner, and we pass those savings on to clients."
