Training Philosophy
n + 1 has been training open source technologies and programming languages
for more than eight years. Most of the third party courseware used to
deliver the training proved to be inadequate on a number of levels.
n + 1 has set out to change the quality of courseware in the market by
providing a tool for learning as well as a day-to-day reference guide.
n + 1's goal is to create courseware that goes beyond rote memorization of
how to use a tool to provide a deeper understanding of the
underlying technology. The courses designed by n + 1 are rigorous and
is demanding of the students. The goal is to challenge students
to think and encourage them to use the technologies in creative ways.
The idea is to
create courses that increase the student's productivity in their daily jobs
rather than waste time on arcane information necessary only to pass a test.
n + 1 wants to push the student to better understand the topics and begin the internalization of the topics covered. Only through internalization of the
technologies can students truly understand and begin to apply it in creative
ways, and by allowing them to meet the challenges of their day-to-day job. The end goal
is not to prepare the student to pass a test, but to make them a more
valuable asset to their company.
In the spirit of Open Source, n + 1 has decided to Open Source the
courseware and make it freely available. n + 1's hope is to grow a
a community where trainers can work together to create courseware that
is second-to-none.
